MLB DFS – Tuesday, August 29th

WEATHER

Lots of rain issues today and each of these games appears to be high risk of PPD.

  • Mariners @ Orioles
  • Marlins @ Nationals
  • Braves @ Phillies
  • Indians @ Yankees

I have basically ruled out all four of these games and will provide thoughts on them at the bottom

PITCHING – Top Tier

Chris Sale … Because of his poor start against the Indians, FanDuel’s pricing algo has dropped him down to only $10,900.  That’s a joke.  He’s pissed over the Blue Jays and they cannot hit his slider.  He’s the best pitcher going today and it’s not even close so for FanDuel contests I plan on taking him and winning with the bats while everyone who fades him flops.

PITCHING – Mid Tier

Zack Godley … Has done outstanding versus the Dodgers and the roof will be closed today in Arizona.  He’s safe to consider, but really why would you go here when you can find a way to get Sale who is MUCH better option today?  This is a DK pivot.

Luke Weaver … Brewers first home game after a long road trip to the west coast (although they did have yesterday off). Weaver comes in with some of the best strikeout upside on the slate and has pitched well against the Brewers before. He’s my number two guy today.

Jake “Jon Snow” Junis … Here’s my low owned sneaky play of the day.  Tampa comes in hot and the Royals are colder than the North.  So it’s Jon Snow to the rescue for Kansas City tonight.  7 innings, 8 strikeouts and 0 ER allowed.  BAM!

PITCHING – Low Tier / SP2 with Sale

James Shields … Someone is smoking.  Either me or Vegas.  But the vegas line on this game is too high.  Yes, the Twins probably win the game, but Shields last four starts have totaled 23.1 IP, 26 strikeouts, 7 walks, 5 HR and 11 ER…  Essentially he has been averaging 6 IP, 7 K, 3 ER per start.  For $6300 on DK I will gladly take that production today.

Or just play one of the mid tier arms with Sale and find your value in the bats.

FAVORITE STACKS

Reds … Deep lineup facing terrible pitcher and bad bullpen.  Flexen has been really bad on the road since his call-up

Cardinals … Love them today against Garza.  Cardinals hit well in Miller Park.

Astros … This is a weird spot.  The Astros go to Tropicana field which is normally empty anyways to play the Rangers due to the flooding in Houston.  Comparing the Astros to the 2005 New Orleans Saints isn’t fair because a football team practicing literally in the parking lot of a high school is much different than a baseball team getting in reps on any field they can and playing baseball off emotion isn’t like playing a football game off emotion.  All that narrative aside, I like the Astros to beat up Perez today despite the odd travel.

SNEAKY STACK

Brewers … Weaver’s chalk will keep them down in ownership.  They’re too good and the ballpark is too good for them to not be considered as a high upside play today.

Athletics .. Going back to the well here.  Should have waited until they faced a RHP and today they’ll beat up Scribner.  K.Davis double dong in play

COORS

Yeah, duh.

The Rain games

I really think these games get called, especially the Nats and Orioles games.  That said, they’re all pretty decent for hitting choices but no real full blown stack.  I excluded them mostly from the analysis but if you hear one is in play then roll with a couple one off’s as you see fit.  I’d rank them Orioles, Marlins, Braves in that order….
