Week 10 Weekend Roundup – Mike Trout On Fire, Clayton Kershaw Return Imminent

Senior Fantasy Baseball Expert Adam Ronis recaps the latest Fantasy Baseball news, injuries and headlines in our Week 10 Weekend Roundup!

Many were anticipating the Sunday matchup between college teammates Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer, who never had the best relationship. Both pitched well, but the bullpens were awful. Bauer threw 113 pitches after seven innings and was sent out for the eighth with a 3-2 lead.

The Indians bullpen has been awful recently, and Bauer put two runners on base before exiting after 127 pitches and 7.1 innings. Both runs came around to score as he allowed five hits, four runs, two walks and a season-high 13 strikeouts. Bauer has a 2.61 ERA.

Cole was in line for a win with the Astros ahead 8-3 in the ninth inning, but Ken Giles came in and allowed three hits and was removed. The Indians tied it and won 10-9 on a walk-off homer by Greg Allen in the 14th inning. Cole went seven innings and allowed four hits, three runs, two walks and struck out eight.

Evan Gattis hit two home runs, and Jose Altuve had four hits, including his 10th consecutive hit, and two RBIs.

Ronald Acuna left Sunday’s game with a left leg injury. An update on his status will be known Monday. Early reports indicate no ligament damage. He tripped over first base and was in pain. He was able to walk off on his own power.

Clayton Kershaw is expected to return to the Dodgers’ rotation on Thursday against the Phillies. He threw a four-inning simulated game Saturday. Kershaw said he’s ready to return and manager Dave Roberts said he’s a viable option for Thursday.

Madison Bumgarner struck out eight in 3.2 hitless innings and walked one while throwing 47 pitches in his first rehab start at Triple-A. Bruce Bochy is “open-minded” about Bumgarner starting for the Giants Friday.

Felipe Velasquez left Sunday’s game with left forearm discomfort. It could be a committee if Vasquez misses time with Edgar Santana the one I would target.

Mike Foltynewicz allowed three hits, one run, walked three and struck out seven in a win over the Red Sox. He has a 2.55 ERA.

Walker Buehler allowed four hits, one walk, one run and struck out eight in seven innings in a win over the Padres. He has a 2.20 ERA and 0.90 WHIP.

Carlos Gonzalez went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer Sunday.

Jesus Aguilar homered for the second straight game Sunday and drove in four. He is batting .325 with nine home runs, 25 runs and 30 RBIs.

Corey Knebel struggled to throw strikes and allowed a homer to Devin Mesoraco, but picked up his fourth save.

Mookie Betts was scratched from Sunday’s lineup with left side tightness. He is expected to sit Monday and is day-to-day.

Ryan Tepera appears to be the favorite for saves in Toronto. He ran into trouble Friday but escaped from a bases-loaded jam to get the save and then allowed one walk in a scoreless inning for a save Sunday. Seung Hwan Oh could be in the mix, too.

J.A. Happ allowed six hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out eight in a win over the Phillies.

Sean Doolittle picked up his 11th save Saturday. He has blown one save and has a 1.93 ERA with a 36:3 K:BB ratio in 33.1 innings. Brandon Kintzler picked up a save on Sunday for the Nationals as Doolittle was unavailable after pitching Friday and Saturday.

It appears there’s a closer committee in Philadelphia. Hector Neris, Seranthony Dominguez, and Luis Garcia have all converted saves lately. Garcia got the ninth inning in a 2-1 win Saturday. Dominguez set him up by getting four outs.

Aaron Nola lost a no-hitter with two outs in the seventh against the Blue Jays and took a no-decision. He went 6.2 innings and allowed one hit, one run, walked three and struck out ten. He has a 2.27 ERA and 0.98 WHIP.

Jack Flaherty had another good outing and picked up a win over the Pirates. He went six innings and allowed four hits, two walks, one run and struck out four. He has a 2.15 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in five starts.

Starling Marte returned from the DL Saturday and went 2-for-4 with a homer. The Pirates kept Austin Meadows on the roster. He didn’t play Saturday and returned to the lineup Sunday and went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Tim Anderson hit two home runs and drove in four runs Saturday. He has 10 home runs and 11 stolen bases.

Dexter Fowler is day-to-day after he was hit in the right knee by a pitch Saturday. X-rays were negative.

Justin Upton left Saturday’s game with a left forearm contusion after getting hit by a pitch and X-rays were negative.

Justin Upton was hit by a pitch Saturday and has a bruised left forearm and was out Sunday. He’s feeling better and expected to be back in a day or two.

After three solid starts to open his Reds career, Matt Harvey struggled at Coors Field. He allowed nine hits, four runs in 5.1 innings.

Buster Posey missed the weekend with a hip injury. The Giants say it’s minor and he’s day-to-day.

Johnny Cueto will begin throwing off flat ground Monday. He is on the 60-day DL with a right elbow sprain and is out until early July.

Jean Segura left Saturday’s game after being kicked in the head. He sat out Sunday and is expected to avoid the DL and possibly return Monday.

Yoenis Cespedes could begin a rehab assignment this weekend. He began a running program on Friday.

Todd Frazier will begin a rehab assignment early this week.

Mike Soroka will begin a rehab assignment this week.

The Padres will place Franchy Cordero on the DL with a forearm injury and Hunter Renfroe will take his spot.
