Jordan Howard leading the way for the backs in Philly

NEWS: Philadelphia Eagles running back Jordan Howard has been “dominating” carries at Eagles camp according to Eliot Shorr-Parks on Twitter. All signs to this point would lead you to believe Howard will be the top guy in the Philly backfield heading into the 2019 season.

ANALYSIS: The Eagles have the most volatile backfield in NFL from year-to-year topped only by the New England Patriots. Rookie Miles Sanders has been a Fantasy darling this summer, but Howard looks like the starter and most around the team believe that’s going to change prior to the season starting. While he has hands like feet and brings next to no PPR value in that system, Howard has proven to be a capable early-down back. He will likely bring you more value this year in redrafts and almost definitely will early in the season.

Chiefs RB Damien Williams sidelined with a hamstring injury

NEWS: Kansas City Chiefs’ running back Damien Williams was sidelined today after leaving practice Sunday with a hamstring injury. The injury currently isn’t something to be overly alarmed about but is something to monitor.

ANALYSIS: It is of course not time to panic with the high-upside back from KC, however, hamstring injuries are always something that can linger. Nonetheless, this could be an opportunity to see how the rest of that backfield is shaping up behind Williams who is believed to be the clear-cut RB1. The team acquired Carlos Hyde this offseason and will return Spencer Ware. Hopefully this ends up being a non-issue and Williams is back soon, but you just never know with hamstrings.

“Take the over” on Lamar Jackson’s rushing attempts this season

NEWS: Last season Lamar Jackson was by far the most run-heavy quarterback in the league for the Baltimore Ravens and now his coach John Harbaugh is saying to expect much of the same in 2019 according to Aditi Kinkhabwala on Twitter. This is the opposite of everything we’ve heard out of Baltimore this summer.

ANALYSIS: There is nothing surprising about this news aside from the fact he actually said it. All offseason we’ve heard out of Baltimore that they will look to scale back Jackson’s carries this year. We didn’t believe it but it’s what’s been said. It’s what’s always said for all quarterbacks. Let’s hope this is true because Jackson’s Fantasy value hinges on his rushing numbers because unless he takes a huge step forward this season we saw last year that his arm isn’t winning any Fantasy matchups for his owners.

Jets WR Jamison Crowder leaves practice with lower leg injury

NEWS: Jets oft-injured wideout Jamison Crowder left practice Monday with what looks to be a right ankle or foot injury. It is not the same ankle that cost him almost half the season last year. He was able to walk back to the locker room on his own so this doesn’t appear to be an AJ Green situation that should impact his regular season.

ANALYSIS: Crowder has flashed greatness at times, but has also been bit the injury bug whether it sidelines him or slows him down significantly. If healthy Crowder can be a very strong sleeper candidate in PPR leagues. He’s quietly been one of the better PPR guys in the league when at his best. Although, Le’Veon Bell may cut into his work along with potential breakout TE Chris Herndon.

Bengals WR John Ross to miss time with hamstring injury

NEWS: Cincinnati Bengals wideout John Ross is expected to miss up to two weeks with hamstring tightness. This is an issue that has lingered throughout the spring right into training camp.

ANALYSIS: Ross has an opportunity to get more looks early in the season with AJ Green on the shelf. However, things are not starting off well for him and his lack of past production and volume make him little more than a boom-or-bust late-round flier with a lot more bust than boom. If healthy Ross seems like more of a cheap DFS option during the early weeks of the season than a legitimate year-long option.
