Fantasy Football: Week 14 Injury Report – OBJ OUT!

Managing Editor Matt Brandon highlights some of the biggest names missing the first week of the Fantasy Football postseason, including Odell Beckham Jr.!

Injury News: New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. has been ruled out against Josh Norman and the Washington Redskins in Week 14.

Fantasy Impact: This makes Evan Engram, who is returning from a two-game absence, along with Sterling Shepard must-plays in seasonal Fantasy Football. Shepard has seen 6 targets in each of his previous two contests but has been unable to produce effective Fantasy lines. Last week, the G-Men employed Bennie Fowler on 32-of-72 offensive snaps. He could be a potential bargain play in the daily games. That being said, he has only seen six targets over the previous three weeks. Russell Shepard saw just 7 offensive snaps in Week 13, but he did score a touchdown on a crazy trick play. He has been targeted five times in three weeks. And newly acquired Corey Coleman was on the field for 11 snaps last week but was unable to find any space as he failed to record a target. He had a reception in each of his previous two games. However, the Giants will likely rely even more heavily on stud rookie RB Saquon Barkley, who makes for an excellent DFS play despite his price.

Injury News: Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR DeSean Jackson will miss his second straight game.

Fantasy Impact: D-Jax is still dealing with a thumb injury and the Bucs are unsure when he will return to the field. In the meantime, Chris Godwin and Adam Humphries will continue to pick up the slack in three-receiver sets alongside Mike Evans. Godwin is averaging over 100 yards per game in games that Jackson has sat out, while Humphries has scored 5 touchdowns over the last five games. Both players get juicy matchups against a New Orleans Saints’ defense that struggles against opposing wide receivers.

Injury News: Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins will likely remain sidelined until the NFL Playoffs.

Fantasy Impact: This isn’t unexpected and shouldn’t affect the Chiefs’ stellar offense. Patrick Mahomes has plenty of weapons in Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill, while Chris Conley and DeMarcus Robinson will step up in Watkins’ absence.

Injury News: Los Angeles Chargers stud RB Melvin Gordon has been ruled out against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Impact: After riding Austin Ekeler into the ground for three quarters, the Chargers gave Justin Jackson a ride in the fourth quarter vs. the Steelers in Week 13. He responded with 68 rushing yards, one reception for 14 yards, and a rushing TD on nine touches while being on the field for only 14-of-64 plays run by the Bolts. The Chargers will likely give Jackson most of the early-down work and if they take a significant lead against a depleted Bengals’ squad, Jackson could be used to run the clock late in the game. At his price, he is an enticing option in DFS and season-long formats.

Injury News: Detroit Lions rookie RB Kerryon Johnson will miss his third consecutive week when the Lions face the Cardinals.

Fantasy Impact: This is good news for LeGarrette Blount. Although he struggled, along with the entire Detroit Lions’ offense last week, Blount broke out in Week 12 for 103 combined yards on 20 touches and two touchdowns. The Cardinals are weak against the run so expect Matthew Stafford to rely on his running game this week.

Other Notable Inactives:

  • San Francisco 49ers WR Pierre Garcon
  • San Francisco 49ers RB Matt Breida
  • Pittsburgh Steelers RB James Conner
  • Indianapolis Colts WR Dontrelle Inman
