Fantasy Baseball: Trade For Paul Goldschmidt ASAP

Dr. Roto is worried about Paul Goldschmidt! But he is NOT moving on from the slugger and covers even more newsworthy and noteworthy happenings in Fantasy Baseball.

Fantasy Baseball News and Notes

— I am concerned about D’Backs 1B Paul Goldschmidt Roto’s poor start. After close to 150 at-bats (or 1/4 of the season), Goldy has 4 HRs and 12 RBIs and is hitting a paltry .216. He’s struck out about a third of the times at the plate which is even more concerning. The high-stakes player in me says to trade for him now more than ever. But, we all know the old adage: buy low and sell high. You can get one of the game’s best players at his absolute bargain basement price! If anything you can sit him for a week until he gets back on track. Buy buy buy!

— Phillies 1B Carlos Santana is starting to heat up. It might be a good idea to activate him if he’s on your bench or trade for him if his current owner is fed up with the way he has been playing.

— Braves RP A.J. Minter is this close to becoming the new closer for the team. It will take one more blown save from Vizcaino for that to happen.

— Phillies RP Edubray Ramos is a name that you probably haven’t heard of this season, but you might soon. Phillies Manager Gabe Kapler has started to call Ramos’ name in late-game pressure situations. There’s a reasonable chance that if he can handle the pressure, he could end up being the Phillies’ new closer.

— Don’t get overly excited about Orioles OF Joey Rickard’s big day. He’s a specialist at hitting LHP but won’t do enough to secure an everyday job.

— If we voted today, would Mookie Betts be the AL MVP? I think so. He’s hitting .360 with 13 HRs and 7 SB. There’s no doubt he should go 30/30 this season if he stays on his current pace.

— Tigers 3B Jeimer Candelario is going in for an MRI this week on his injured wrist. There’s a good chance that he will be shut down for at least a few weeks if not the whole season to get his wrist to stop ailing.

— Astros 1B Yuli Gurriel is currently on a nice hitting streak, but I have yet to see his power return after his off-season wrist issues. If he continues to swing a hot bat (and the power picks up), he would be a nice trade target for those owners needing batting average.

— White Sox RP Bruce Rondon seems to have surfaced as a potential closer on the South Side. Rondon was a top minor league prospect for the Tigers but failed in his previous late-inning chances. I still might grab him off waivers if you need saves in case he turns his fortunes around.

— Whoever projected Brewers SP Freddie Peralta to strikeout 13 batters in 5 1/3 IP on Sunday, please stand up and take a bow as you are my new Fantasy hero!  I am not sure if Peralta can mow down batters at this rate, but I am more than willing to pay a few bucks to see if he can.

— The Padres are calling up OF Franmil Reyes from Triple-A. He’s currently hitting .346 with 14 HRs in 127 at bats. I knew he had power, but I didn’t see this type of power coming. If he starts a few games this week and doesn’t look overmatched at the plate, he might be the most expensive player available in FAAB next Sunday.
