Dr. Roto Podcasts – Reviewing Week 5 & The Box Scores

Dr. Roto reviews Week 5 from a Fantasy Football perspective and dives into this past week's box scores in today's two-in-one podcast article!

Week 5 Prescription Notes

The Giants may have lost on an outstanding 63-yard kick from Graham Gano, but for the first time this season they threw the ball downfield and tried to integrate Odell Beckham Jr. into their offense. If the Giants want to keep competitive at all this season, they will continue letting Eli Manning make reads at the line of scrimmage and not force him into the “high percentage” short passing plays that never seem to work for their offense.

How upset am I that I didn’t start Jets RB Isaiah Crowell in two of my leagues? Crowell was a beast against the Broncos and showed that the vaunted Broncos defense does a much better job of stopping the pass than it does of stuffing the run. (BTW if you didn’t play Robby Anderson either I can’t hold you accountable for that!)

Why is Fantasy Football (both DFS and seasonal) one of the MOST frustrating hobbies? You need to look no further than Cards TE Ricky Seals-Jones. In the first four games of the season, the 49ers had let up a TD in every game to an opposing tight end. On Sunday, RSJ did not even make a catch.

Coach speak is another thing that can get into a Fantasy owner’s head. Bengals Head Coach Marvin Lewis swore up and down all week that RB Joe Mixon was going to be slowly integrated back into the team’s offense after returning from knee surgery. Mixon had 25 touches including 22 rushing attempts for 93 yards. If you benched Mixon because of that news, don’t be angry at yourself — but remember that coaches don’t always tell the truth.

Inside the Box Score

The Giants finally heeded Odell Beckham Jr.’s pleas for more targets by targeting him 14 times in Week 5. Sadly, Beckham’s multitude of targets took away from Sterling Shepard‘s number of targets (he had only 7). The Giants played better this week by throwing the ball down the field, but they need to continue to work on their distribution.

I wouldn’t rush out and pick up any New York Jets receivers off the waiver wire just yet. I know that Robby Anderson had 123 yards and two TDs, but he did it on two big plays as he only had three receptions. Anderson had five targets for the day, and Jermaine Kearse had four. Sam Darnold might be a rookie, but he’s going to need to complete more than ten passes in an entire game if he wants to make his teammates Fantasy-relevant.
