Dongers Club: Tue 9/4

The Dongers Club by Steve Renner

PITCHING

TOP END

  1. Justin Verlander – Not much to say here, heavy advantage at home and a team who has plenty of K’s in their lineup.  Expensive so that’s the main reason to consider going elsewhere.
  2. Rich Hill – He draws a bad team against LHP at home after the Dodgers lost a game they needed to win.  LA should bounce back against Vargas today and as long as we don’t get the blister boy Hill then he should have no issues getting us a nice floor return today.

MID RANGE

  1. Wade LeBlanc -Picking on the Orioles on the road who are going to set the worst record in all of professional sports on the road (or close to it) this year.
  2. Joe Musgrove – 7500 for Musgrove on FD is tempting today against a Reds team in a bad park shift.  Good hitting conditions though so unlike Reed who is a punt value play, there’s a little hesitation with me on Musgrove today.  He’s pitched well at home since coming to Pittsburgh.

LONGSHOT

  1. Cody Reed – SP2 play at 5k against the Pirates.  I believe Reed has good enough talent to make him a viable backend starter or long reliever.  He won’t go deep but at 5k we can shoot fo getting us 2.5x on DK and pair him with Verlander.

STACKS

  1. Cardinals … Top stack today in a hot Washington, DC.  Cards should jack a few out.
  2. Angels … I expect a bounce back performance from the Angels tonight who are expecting Upton to be in the lineup which helps tremendously.
  3. D’Backs … Road lefties in chase = D’Backs first inning runs.  Wont go off but good cash game options here.
  4. Royals/Indians … Indians should heat up here and I don’t love the spot for Duffy tonight.  The challenge is that the Indians power comes from their left side (shocker?) and that will have to wait until they get Duffy out.  Royals = LiC = Gold.  Irish Coffee!!!!

POSITIONAL PLAYS

CATCHER

Very weak position today.

  1. Kevan Smith
  2. Jorge Alfarro
  3. Austin Hedges

FIRST BASE

  1. Ryan “Irish Coffee” O’Hearn
  2. Matt Carpenter
  3. CJ Cron

SECOND BASE

Love Altuve here tonight at 2% ownership, but Houston should have no issues winning this game and so we wont get a 9th INNING surge from him.  He’s a cash game play if not paying up at SP.  Outside of that look for value guys like Goodrum or Fletcher

  1. Jose Altuve
  2. David Fletcher
  3. Ian Kinsler – Nice spot batting 2nd.
  4. Niko Goodrum

THIRD BASE

With Bryant back the position gets a boost on paper, he has yet to really go off this year but has good history destroying the Brewers.

  1. Bryant, Kris
  2. Nolan Arenado — comes in on a massive cold slump, he’s gonna break out this week
  3. Justin Turner
  4. Wil Myers
