While discussing a recent draft he participated in, Adam Ronis talks about whether No. 3 overall is too high for Bryce Harper. Some might even argue the first round is too high. But here, Ronis discusses the merits and logic behind why the Washington Nationals superstar is worth the risk because his talent more than covers the eventual reward. Ronis does clarify that he might not take him at third overall, but he understands and explains the point of view of someone who would take him at the No. 3 spot. It’s important to be flexible. There’s no such thing as a perfect draft or a sure thing at the first or second pick either.

Last year, Harper only played 111 games, but he still managed to hit 29 homers for 87 RBI. And 2018 is a big year for him. He’s 25 years old and in a huge contract year. There’s a lot riding on his performance when thinking about the mega-deal he has coming. Whether it is Washington or another team that ends up paying for him, Harper’s contract will be the talking point of the offseason. So even though Harper has only lived up to his draft position once, maybe twice, we know what he is capable of when happy and healthy.
